Our Story

As time goes by, I feel more and more our most important asset is our health.

I wonder what health means to you since it is actually a very complex thing. Exercise, sleep, food, how we breathe (perhaps you haven't considered that one!), stress management - we could list many other things that come to mind in relation to health. Preserving and caring for our physical and mental health is certainly not an easy task.

I grew up in a country town in a small country at a time when prepared foods were not readily available on store shelves.

My grandparents grew a lot of things in our small garden from which freshly prepared food was put on the table every day.  When making a cake, for example, we cracked walnuts and used homemade jam. I now know I can call myself lucky. At that time, as a child, I didn't always appreciate or enjoy baking and cooking like I do now.

Of course, later we also used timesaving, easy-to-prepare semi-finished or finished products like dry soup mixes, pre-mixed seasonings, cake mixes, frozen pizza - you know what I'm talking about, right? We believed that these were good things. We are now seeing their long-term effects on our health.

And why do I say that now?

Because for many, many years I struggled with all kinds of inflammation, and it never occurred to me that this could have anything to do with my diet and lifestyle. I drank herbal teas and ate garlic (with garlic!) to reduce inflammation as was recommended to me.

I just didn't care about what was causing the inflammation.

Later, with a little more information, I tried many different lifestyles aimed at reducing inflammation, with varying success. After my mom was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in her early forties, I felt a growing urge to find a genuine solution.

We had started taking vitamins earlier, although at that time based on much less information and mostly for symptom management. Then, fortunately, we met a doctor who understood the whole body and my mom's health results greatly improved thanks to the vitamins, minerals, and trace elements he recommended. At the same time, my mother's dietary choices did not help her recovery.

A major turning point occurred in March 2011. I’ll never forget the day when I heard for the first time that it might be worthwhile to try the way of life of our ancestors and some native people still living today live, eating natural minimally-processed foods – fresh fruits and vegetables along with meats, poultry, and fish, plus some vitamin and mineral supplements. And we strive for normal blood sugar levels through low-carb food choices (i.e., slow-absorption carbs).

I took it to heart and gave myself three months, curious to see what, if any, change will happen, how sustainable this lifestyle is, and how my family will handle it. As the one who prepares meals most of the time my goal was to prepare food that was healthy and tasted great.

After reading this one blog article, I immediately got into it and, on the way, I read more and more, learning about the whole lifestyle, the study of which continues to this day.

Fortunately, my family joined me making this change and each one has benefitted in their own way. Even my skeptical (by his own admission!) husband, Dennis, changed to this lifestyle. Beyond shedding a lot of excess weight, his allergies improved significantly, and he felt better than he had in years. My mom also switched to this lifestyle. Of course, the damage caused by RA did not reverse, but her diet and supplements make her days bearable.

More and more of us realize nowadays that we should return to eating natural foods. Today, we can also choose from products that support the preservation of our health, as JuNūla is meant to do.

Like you, we also like different flavors, textures, and juicy, enjoyable delicacies. Variety also plays a role. This is why we searched for a breakfast delicacy that fits our lifestyle, which can even serve as a dessert.

We couldn’t find one, so JuNūla was "born".

Our dream is that more and more people will follow a lifestyle that ensures a long, quality life.

We’d love to help make your journey easier. ❤️
